Empowering communities to come together to design for dementia

Keep connected with us and be first to hear about our exciting plans ahead for 2019.

Designathon We Remember 2018

Designathon We Remember 2018 looks to empower the community to come together to design for dementia! The event brings together designers, developers, entrepreneurs, students, caregivers, healthcare workers and social service providers to collaborate and identify design solutions for persons with dementia and their caregivers in Singapore.

Join in on various activities across the month of September and October 2018, as we view dementia from different perspectives, and explore how we can design for dementia.

Ninaivirukkum Varai // Till The Last Memory

Parvathy is an independent woman, whose two children are married and living separately. When Parvathy is diagnosed with dementia, she realises that she has limited time to spend with her children before she forgets them. Her daughter, Aksharah, is distant towards her as Parvathy was very critical of her. Will Aksharah be able to resolve her differences with Parvathy before Parvathy loses herself totally to the illness?

05-07/10/18: Enabling Festival

The three-day community festival is a kaleidoscope of multi-disciplinary activities in the areas of visual art, music, design, theatre, film, dance, photography, medical forums, hands-on workshops, a walk through the Enabling Room and a Designathon.

This festival seeks to address the growing importance of dementia awareness and to enable those living with dementia to live a life with dignity. We aim to reach out to other caregivers to share that they are not alone in this journey. The festival is a consolidation of comprehensive and credible support from various sectors such as medical, sciences, caregiving, mental wellness, visual and performing arts sector, all under one roof to raise awareness and address this impending health issue.

Month of October 2018: Enabling Room

Through the “Enabling Room” exhibition, we aim to capture the audience participation and experience. We would like visitors to encounter the conditions of dementia through the daily objects we use at home.

On first impression, the homes of persons with dementia appear normal, and only through use or actual contact, do we find slight modifications and changes that are specifically designed to ease the movement and task of the person with dementia.

Encountering the subtle differences within familiar domestic setting produces the small “Ah! “ in the visitors to this installation. As we activate our faculty of memory to go through this exhibition, we are informed about the memory loss at the same time.

This installation is curated by Atelier Hoko.
